Big, beautiful, and HEAVY, these top-of-the-line audiophile speakers sound shockingly good, despite being almost 40 years old. They easily sound as nice as modern speakers costing thousands of dollars, but because they’re older now, their value has come down to the realm where mere mortals can actually afford them! Each speaker weighs close to 100 pounds, and if you do the ‘knuckle test’ and knock on any part of the cabinet, it sounds and feels like you’re tapping on a rock.The boxes are as solid and rigid as it’s possible to be without using cement, but with the gorgeous rosewood veneer covering every side you’d never know it - until you try moving them! These Matrix 3s were electrically matched at the factory and have sequential serial numbers, so they’re as close to a perfectly-matched, identical-sounding pair of speakers as you’re going to find.They’re internally wired with Van den Hul cables; no expense was spared on any part of the construction. Both speakers are fully working and sound amazing - they’ve got the finesse to reproduce the tiniest, most subtle sounds, but they can also shake your walls without breaking a sweat. The rosewood cabinets are fully intact and look very nice, but there are some marks here and there from being moved around over the last 30 years. The tops had some water damage, but both boxes were repeatedly sanded and oiled so now it’s hard to tell that they’re not perfect. The cosmetic trim rings around the woofers and tweeters were originally blue, but I’ve painted in them black using acrylic paint; it can be easily removed if you prefer the original appearance. Both fabric-covered metal grilles are included and in excellent shape; their only flaw is that they’re both missing their B&W emblems. I’m asking $450 for these speakers, which seems criminally low for what you’re getting, both in quality and quantity of sound! Possibly the best speakers ever sold for that price… as always, you’re welcome and encouraged to fully test them prior to purchase.
